A blessing for sending a child you love to school

This blessing must be quick, my dear, for the lambs are off to school. It has no time for platitudes, and, I regret, it cannot mend a broken nation.

What this blessing can do is stretch. It will climb on the bus with your babies, go to class, love recess, and help them study for tests. All the while, it will travel with you—a constant companion. It will never, ever stop holding your hand.

You will cry, “But there are wolves.”

It will sigh and nod and…stretch.

This blessing will stretch so far that it will wind through every home on your block, every street in the city, every classroom in every school, every place, everywhere. It will stretch beyond bounds, crossing borders and oceans and even the spacetime continuum.

From there, with one squeeze, it will tell you the truth of things. You will know that some bonds never, ever break.

You will sigh and nod and…stretch.
