Paying attention

I enjoy Marlee Grace’s “Paying Attention To” feature in their newsletter. Noticing with intention, as Grace does, can be eye-opening. And it helps us inhabit the present moment. If you’d like to try but want guidance, here’s a practice for noticing spaciousness. I also recommend Rob Walker’s The Art of Noticing, which has great exercises.

As for me, I recently paid attention to…

  • everything I share in my newsletter,

  • the thick silence of my house when I’m the only one awake,

  • aggressive dust bunnies under my bed,

  • my absolute disinterest in dealing with them,

  • the way my heart caught on the first day of school,

  • squeaky shoes on a tireless toddler running circles in a coffee shop,

  • hot sun on my shoulders,

  • how much I love to dance, and

  • the perfection that is a cold Reese’s peanut butter cup.

What are you noticing?

Every other Friday, I share 5 things to consider and a treasure chest of links in my Helping Friendly Newsletter. Subscribe here (it’s free).
