Be safe, Charlottesville.

This statement was originally posted on Facebook @ 6:42 AM the morning of August 12, 2017. My A12 role was to organize and execute “care bear” donations and volunteers, which entailed basic non-medical (hydration, protein, snacks) and pastoral support — in the streets, in the “safe space” at Charlottesville First United Methodist Church, and (while allowed) in the UVA ER waiting room. If you were there, that was us in the yellow bandanas.

Be safe, Charlottesville. Praying (in my evangelically influenced, academically trained, interfaith marriage, agnostic, neighbor-loving way ❤️):

To be useful. For no violence by any hands. That everyone finds the courage they need. That all lean into beloved community. And that we transcend political division with love — on the streets, in our institutions, in the media, and online.
