Statement on Charlottesville, 8.12.17

The past weekend in Charlottesville was impossibly hard, yet, paradoxically, inspiring. We experienced horrible things, but we also witnessed so much bravery, dedication, and caring.

I was proud to work alongside community members who protected our city with nonviolent resistance, street medical care, mental health support, the provision of basic needs, sanctuary space, and pastoral care.

In the process, I learned volumes about leadership, decision-making, strategy, and justice, which I look forward to sharing with you.

For now, I ask you to identify opportunities for pulling your concern and outrage into the work you do everyday. Find those openings. That is how we will transform this moment into meaningful change - by folding it into the normal fabric of our lives.

Peace.
